Between January 30 and February 2, the Italian ambassador to Brazil, Francesco Azzarello, had an official visit to Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by consul general Paolo Miraglia Del Giudice and the CEO of Leonardo S.p.A. do Brasil, Francesco Moliterni. They met with local officials and representatives of the private sector, the cultural scene, and the Italian community.
As part of their extensive program of meetings, Azzarello and his delegation attended a lunch with Fundação Getulio Vargas’ president, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, in FGV’s main office. During the meeting, Leal noted the fruitful collaboration between the Italian diplomatic service and FGV in Brazil and called for partnerships between the Italian and Brazilian authorities to be strengthened.
The discussions focused on ongoing economic trends at local and regional levels, and the potential for cooperation between Italy and Brazil in various sectors, including advanced technology, defense and security, logistics, and precision agriculture. The ambassador stressed that the Italian authorities are keen to support projects related to urban redevelopment, smart and sustainable cities, and protection of cultural and landscape heritage, involving new technologies and satellite systems run by world-class Italian companies operating in Rio de Janeiro.
FGV Europe has been working hard to promote bilateral relations between Brazil and Italy. On September 8 and 9, 2021, it organized the “Second Research to Business Meeting 2021 – The Brazilian Future City Development Project.” This initiative was created by the Italian Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro and the Italian Embassy in Brazil and it was supported by major Italian companies, including ENEL, Leonardo and TIM, world leaders in the power, electric mobility, technology, connectivity and cybersecurity sectors. The next edition of this seminar is scheduled for April 2022.
In order to support Brazil in the areas of civil and public security and critical infrastructure, on June 9, 2021, at the Italian Embassy in Brasília, ENEL X Brasil, Leonardo do Brasil and TIM Brasil signed a memorandum of understanding to develop joint solutions aimed at a smart, integrated, safe and resilient city model. FGV Europe will promote and provide technical support to these activities.
