Today’s society is facing new challenges brought about by the “digital and sustainability revolutions” as well as by crises of various natures (COVID-19, Russia-Ukraine war, extreme weather events, etc.). In this scenario of uncertainty, the actors in society have been changing their habits, consumption patterns, and production systems.

To boost the economic and social recovery of the countries affected by these crises, there is a global and national effort to design strategies and implement sustainable development actions, in a fair transition perspective.

In this context, the subject of the proposed debate is the relationship between the energy transition and the sustainable mining sector, with a focus on the territorial scale in the Brazilian context.

How should mining territories behave when faced with an increase in demand, vis-à-vis the need to achieve sustainable development levels of the territories themselves and of mineral production?

How should other local stakeholders (public authorities, business sector, civil society and academia) cooperate to identify solutions in this regard?

How can sustainable mining strengthen the competitiveness of mining territories?

These are some of the topics discussed in the thematic café.
