The International Center for Innovation in Sustainable Amazonian Agriculture (CIASA), focused on sustainable farming, was officially launched in Nova Canaã do Norte, Mato Grosso State, on July 3, 2024, with an event held at the City Council Chamber. The ceremony included Mayor Rubens Roberto Rosa, local and state authorities, and representatives from various organizations. This initiative, started in 2021 by the Nova Canaã do Norte Municipality in cooperation with the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), aims to enhance sustainable agricultural practices in the region through partnerships with several Brazilian public and private institutions and international bodies.
FGV Europe’s Project Manager Marco Saverio Ristuccia highlighted the strategic significance of the project, emphasizing its potential to bring new economic opportunities to the region through innovation, especially for family farming, ensuring, at the same time, socio-productive inclusion and environmental preservation. Baiena Souto, FGV Project Manager, noted the importance of an extensive collaboration involving the Center’s development, including national and international partners.
Rosangela Rocha, the Secretary of Administration and Planning, emphasized the project’s role in improving the community’s quality of life and fostering local entrepreneurship. CIASA will drive innovation in local agribusiness, supported by various organizations and institutions.
Currently, networking activities are underway to involve more professionals in the project’s development. The CIASA will soon be situated on a 7-hectare site, 1.5 kilometers from the city’s urban perimeter. Mayor Rosa celebrated this achievement, marking the start of a new era for Nova Canaã do Norte.
FGV Europe will support Nova Canaã do Norte Municipality in the next months to develop the conception and structuring the operational model of the CIASA.
