🌍 Today, November 18th, on the occasion of the G20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Prof. Dr. Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal welcomed a delegation from Nigeria led by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Research (FMAFS) to Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
This meeting provided an excellent opportunity to deepen FMAFS’s knowledge about FGV, strengthen mutual relations, explore avenues for collaboration, and discuss matters of shared interest, such as The Green Imperative Project (GIP), one of the largest international agricultural technology transfer projects, designed by FGV Europe with the support of Deutsche Bank. GIP’s conception began in 2018, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture and FGV Europe. Since then, both parties have engaged in many meaningful discussions to advance in its design. With an expected duration of 10 years and an estimated budget of US$1.2 billion, the GIP is a cooperation initiative between Brazil and Nigeria, which aims to modernize and strengthen the Nigerian agricultural sector, through technology and knowledge in Brazilian tropical agriculture.
Additionally, during the meeting a new MoU was signed establishing a framework for collaboration between FGV Europe and FMAFS targeted at boosting Nigeria’s agricultural productivity and sustainability through the revitalization of the fertilizer production, strengthen the capacity for producing hybrid seed and to develop and promote innovative agriculture financing solutions both for smallholder and commercial farmers.
