Business Network Roundtable with the EU Commission in Brussels

Last week, FGV Europe Manager Mariana Fleischhauer Corrêa da Costa participated in a roundtable at ApexBrasilin Brussels, organized by Raízen, bringing together Brazilian business leaders and officials from the European Commission, including DG TRADE, DG ENER, and DG CLIMA. The roundtable aimed to facilitate a candid, forward-looking exchange on the evolving EU–Brazil trade and energy relationship.

In light of recent geopolitical and policy developments—including dynamics around EU–Mercosur ratification, global trade rebalancing, and energy transition negotiations—the discussion focused on practical implications for industry and opportunities for deeper cooperation.

The primary objective was for EU policymakers to hear directly from Brazilian businesses on how current and forthcoming EU policies are perceived on the ground, and how Brazil positions itself as a reliable, strategic partner in trade, energy, and the green transition.

The interactive discussion covered:

  • EU–Brazil trade relations in the current global context
  • Implications of EU trade, climate, and industrial policies for Brazilian companies
  • Energy transition priorities, including energy security and diversification
  • Sustainability frameworks, carbon markets, and international climate cooperation

Participants included members and partners of the Brazil–EU Business Network, such as Acelen Renewables, Braskem, FS Fueling Sustainability, Inpasa Brasil, Petrobras, Suzano, Vale, WEG, UNICA, and ABPA, alongside support from the Brazilian Mission to the EU.

Europe and Brazil share common values, high standards, and a commitment to building a more sustainable and competitive future. The Brazil–EU Business Network is built on this shared spirit, and this roundtable marked an important step forward. We are excited to continue this journey, strengthening collaboration and driving tangible impact in trade, energy, and sustainability.
