SUMMARY:EU-Mercosur FTA – What comes next? Legal\, economic\, and geopoli
tical implications for business and policy
DESCRIPTION:The German Economic Institute (IW)\, the German Institute for I
nternational and Security Affairs and the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV)
Europe invite you to a high-level trade event:\n“EU-Mercosur FTA – Wh
at comes next? Legal\, economic\, and geopolitical implications for busine
ss and policy”\n\nThe political debate surrounding the EU–Mercosur tra
de agreement has entered a new phase.\nAfter the conclusion of negotiation
s and recent political steps to advance the agreement\, attention in Bruss
els and in EU member states is increasingly shifting to the practical and
political questions surrounding its ratification and implementation. While
supporters see the agreement as an important opportunity to deepen econom
ic ties with South America and strengthen the EU’s global trade partners
hips\, critics continue to raise concerns related to environmental standar
ds\, agricultural competition and the broader balance between trade libera
lization and sustainability commitments. In this context\, the future of t
he agreement remains uncertain and politically contested.\nQuestions about
the legal structure of the agreement\, possible pathways for ratification
and the role of provisional application are shaping the debate at the EU
level. At the same time\, businesses are closely watching how the agreemen
t could affect market access\, supply chains and investment decisions betw
een the two regions.\nBringing together policymakers\, economists\, busine
ss representatives and experts\, the event will examine the legal\, econom
ic\, and geopolitical implications of the EU–Mercosur agreement and disc
uss what the next steps for the partnership could look like.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\
