FGV Europe contributed to the 13th issue of the Brazil-Europe Relations Series of KAS Brasil entitled “Brazil-Europe relations facing the changing world”.
The aim of the current issue is to discuss how present transformations, with their inherent challenges and opportunities, impact on relations between Brazil and the European Union.
FGV Europe’s Fellow, Francesco Di Lodovico authored the article “The Global Gateway initiative within the context of Brazil-EU relations”.
Firstly, the author gives overview of Brazil-EU institutional and economic relations, in order to better contextualize the EU Global Gateway (GG) initiative and the opportunity it represents for Brazil. Secondly, he highlights the GG key features as an investment framework for building sustainable digital, energy and transport infrastructure around the world, towards the commitments of the UN 2030 agenda and its SDGs, as well as, the Paris Agreement. Finally, Francesco Di Lodovico, concludes with some key recommendations on how to better explore the opportunities that GG represents to reinvigorate the EU-Brazil Strategic Partnership and expand economic ties, stepping-up EU investments in Brazil in the green, digital and inclusive transitions. According to the author “Brazil has the potential to become the EU’s key partner in the fight against climate change and the EU could act hand in hand with the most biodiverse region in the world.”
